The Ram
IN HIS OWN WORDS
I put pen to paper in the front room of the old family farmhouse; my brother Tommy left me a guitar to use while I was in town. In that room, live ancestral memories and the friendly ghosts of the past. The house overflows with soul; all those acts of unconditional love, like condensation gathering on the windows.
Places like these are where songwriters belong, where the mind swims in inspiration, saturated in ancient emotion. That particular room has millions of songs in it, all you have to do is take a seat and listen to your heart.
Our ability to find beauty in the world around us is a gift; it’s the very definition of art. It frees the mind to translate tragedy, pain, and loss into that which helps us grow. “Everything” is a nod to this gift. The song is written for those who see riches, where others see only nothing, an ode to the creator in every single one of us.
REVIEWS
The Ram’s latest release, “Everything,” captures a blend of soulful Hammond organ elements, a chilled-out guitar licks, and a bass line that keeps the groove rolling. The laid-back, gruff vocal delivery brings to mind the styles of Bruce Springsteen and Nick Cave, while the ever-present organ provides overtones reminiscent of Vanilla Fudge. This combination results in a captivating and well-rounded track.
I’ve never surfed at night, but “Space Cowboy” makes me feel like I have. The darkness, the rhythmic crashing of the waves—it’s all so meditative, like you’re floating in another dimension. The Ram nailed that feeling, capturing the strange beauty of being out there, disconnected from everything but the ocean and the sky. You get the sense that surfing at night isn’t just about catching waves. It’s about the experience of being out there, under the stars, with the world fading behind you.
I love the subtle parallel between space and night, especially with the mirror-like water reflecting the sky. There’s something poetic and timeless about it. And if you close your eyes while listening to the track, you’ll find yourself in a dark space where only The Ram’s voice leads you, like a cosmic cowboy, through the labyrinths of emotions and thoughts. I noticed that “Space Cowboy” resonates with joy, hope, and a feeling of warmth. This track instills confidence that anything is possible. And there’s nothing to fear, really.
